The Winter Sciences and Survival Seminar Avalanche, Mountain RescueNordic Patrollers from Eastern, European & Southern DivisionsThe Winter Sciences and Survival Seminar (WSSS) for Avalanche, Mountain Rescue and Nordic patrollers from the National Ski Patrol's Eastern, European & Southern Divisions will be on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the U.S. Army West Point Ski Lodge. It will be held at the Victor Constant Ski Slope at 700 Victor Constant Road (Route 218), West Point, NY. A banquet with a special guest speaker is planned for that evening at the lodge. More info on the area is at http://www.westpointmwr.com/ACTIVITY/SKI/index.HTM. Block reservations until 23 February 2012 have been made at three local hotels/motel. We are also planning a voluntary, on-snow portion of the seminar on Sunday, March 25, 2012 on the 37 trails of Belleayre Mountain, Belleayre Mountain Road, Pine Hill, NY. It is about a two hour drive from West Point. More information is at http://www.belleayre.com . All attendees that have a current NSPS registration card will be eligible for a free lift pass. For many years, this biennial event has been held at the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, NH. This time around, we are changing it to a three division event at West Point. A number of speakers are planned for a host of informative presentations on various avalanche, MTR, Nordic, search & rescue, snow sciences, and history topics. This seminar is recommended for all avalanche rescue, mountain rescue, Nordic, and other enthusiasts for cold, wet stuff. Avalanche Awareness course credit will be provided for all NSP participants, if needed. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary event to learn new aspects of winter science and survival. To join in on this unique winter extravaganza, please email Scott Campbell at campbellsservices@gmail.com to get a registration packet, or call him with any questions at (703) 241-2640 (home) anytime. Please put “WSSS Seminar” on the subject line of the email, so Scott can better sort out the incoming emails. Please mail your registration form and check by 16 March 2012 to Scott Campbell, 3537 Devon Drive, Falls Church, VA 22042-4027 to avoid late fees. Scott Campbell Registration Form Details |
