Ron Fenner joined NSP in 1977 and has been active ever since with the Mount Southington Ski Patrol. After three years as a Patroller, he challenged the Senior Program and successfully completed all the requirements to become an Alpine Senior Patroller.  Shortly thereafter he became an Instructor for both OEC and OET and continues in both these programs today.  These skills have been put to use teaching and evaluating Patrollers and Senior Candidates for decades. In addition, Ron has held the role of Instructor Trainer for OEC for many years.  In 2023 he added instructing Outdoor First Care for the Mountain Host Program.
On the Patrol level, at Mount Southington, Ron was the Chairperson of the Accident Review Committee for at least six years. He was the Mount Southington Ski Patrol NSP Representative from some time prior to 2004.  He relinquished this position in 2010 to become the Mount Southington Ski Patrol, Patrol Director, a position he continues to hold.  He has also held a position on the Patrol Board of Directors since prior to 2004 and continues in that position today. In addition, Ron has been a Session Leader since some time before 2004.
Awards Received at the patrol level include Patroller of the Year, Mentor of the Year and Director’s Award.  He received the Director’s Award at the Region level and at the National Level he has received a Patroller’s Cross, a Yellow Merit Star, a Blue Merit Star, a Purple Merit Star, a Distinguished Service Award and a National Appointment.
Ron has been teaching Ski Patrollers for almost fifty years.  He can always be counted on to be involved in teaching at refreshers, OEC classes, OFC classes, Lift Evacuation and on the job training of candidates each year as he is always at the mountain.  He is an integral part of the management team at Mount Southington contributing in many ways.  His management style is kind and understanding while maintaining the rules and procedures.
